Wendy Siegel, Cantorial Assistant

Wendy J. (Saloman) Siegel grew up in Burlington, MA and attended the Reform congregation, Temple Isaiah of Lexington, MA.  After confirmation in 10th grade, Wendy continued her studies and observed her Bat Mitzvah during her graduation ceremony of her senior year.  She is a graduate of Clark University in Worcester, MA, with a B.A. in Sociology.  Wendy raised her son Matthew in Connecticut and remains a big UCONN Huskies basketball fan.  The Siegels were members of the Reform synagogue, Farmington Valley Jewish Congregation-Emek Shalom of Simsbury, CT for many years. While working as a professional Legal Secretary, Wendy attended University of Hartford to begin her study of Modern Hebrew, putting her on the path toward the Cantorate.  When she realized this was a serious goal, she enrolled as a part-time student at The Academy for Jewish Religion in Riverdale, NY.  During this time, Wendy was the Cantorial Soloist at Temple Beth Israel of Winsted, CT.  After two years of study, she moved to the Boston area and enrolled in the five-year full time Cantor-Educator Program of The School of Jewish Music at Hebrew College in Newton.  During this time, Wendy spent a year in Israel studying at Pardes Institute in Jerusalem.  Recently graduated from Hebrew College with a Master of Jewish Education, Wendy is looking forward to being ordained as a Cantor in the spring of 2012. For the past two years, Wendy returned to her roots at Temple Isaiah and taught Hebrew School, was a B’nai Mitzvah tutor and did her one year Cantorial Internship there.  In addition to loving Jewish music, she loves musical theater, the beach and the Boston Red Sox.
