Bar/Bat Mitzvah Requirements
It has been said that it takes an entire village to raise a child. The responsibilities for a child to become a Bar/Bat Mitzvah at Congregation B'nai Israel require an educational partnership between the family and the Congregation.
These responsibilities are as follows:
- Students must be enrolled for four years (Grades 3 - 6) prior to their Bar/Bat Mitzvah date at Congregation B'nai Israel's School for Living Judaism or an accredited Jewish day school.
- School for Living Judaism
a) Students enrolled in the School for Living Judaism may not miss more than two classes per trimester in either Judaica or Hebrew and must complete any make-up work assigned.
b) Students must have earned satisfactory grades in both the academic and conduct requirements for each grade and tutoring level.
c) Student must be enrolled and in good standing through the synagogue year during which their Bar/Bat Mitzvah is scheduled.
- Jewish Day School
Students must be enrolled and in good standing at their school through the synagogue year during which Bar/Bat Mitzvah is scheduled. If a student is no longer registered in a Jewish day school, the student must then register for classes at The School for Living Judaism at Congregation B'nai Israel.
- Families of transfer students must provide report cards from their previous religious school.
