Music
We are very much a singing congregation. We are also a congregation that involves itself with the ever evolving tapestry of Jewish Music. From the adult and children's choirs, wonderful Friday night Klezmer services and our funny and fantastic purim shpiels, to our moving High Holy Day services, there is something for everyone here at CBI.
Music Groups
If you love to sing, come join us! Whether you're 8 or 80, we have a group just for you. Come find your voice at Congregation B'nai Israel:
Alter Chai Notes (Adults)
If you enjoy singing, this is the group for you. This adult singing group, led by Cantor Shore, teaches everything in a slow, easy-to-learn manner. There is no need to read music or Hebrew. Come join us for enjoyable evenings where we make beautiful Jewish music together. The group has also just become a Chavurah, with members coming together for events other than singing.
Shultones (7th - 10th graders)
Cantor Shore leads the most talented teen rock band around, who can sing or play a musical instrument. The "Shultones" learn upbeat music in a fun environment, and play for various services and programs throughout the year to their adoring fans.
Junior Chai Notes and Drama Club (3rd to 7th grade)
Have a budding star on your hands? Wendy Siegel, our Cantorial Assistant, leads this group of children in learning a wide variety of Jewish music for holidays and Shabbat-they've even done a Top 40 Purim song medley! Cantor Shore and Wendy Siegel also work to prepare them for the role of Junior Cantor so they can lead services for the School for Living Judaism.
Drama Club (6th graders)
This group is for all of our 6th grade actors and actresses. Cantor Shore and cantorial assistant Wendy will direct the children in their very own Purim Shpiel that is performed for the entire Hebrew School. The children meet Thursday afternoons prior to Purim to rehearse a play and music that they have chosen.
Chai Lights (Adult Band)
Are you a frustrated musician who is looking for someone to make music with? Under the direction of Cantor Shore, the Chai Lights are making terrific Jewish music come alive for the congregation and for themselves. This group uplifts us at services and really rocks the house! We are always looking for musicians to join in the fun.
To sign up for any of these groups, contact Lenore Haskel at 241-8118 or lenore@cbiboca.org.
Purim Shpiels
Our orginal Purim Shpiels give a hamish warmth to our holiday expression. It is with great blessing that we can share these treasures with other communities.
