Our Mission:

CBI is a welcoming home. We inspire and connect a diverse community for generations by advancing the richness of Jewish values and traditions through the embrace of Torah (study), Avodah (work), and Gemilut Chasidim (acts of loving kindness).

Our Vision:

CBI is a thriving and connected Jewish community, joyfully inspired by tradition and passionately committed to worship, study and repairing the world.

History:

In 1984, four couples and one Rabbi dreamed of starting a new reform synagogue in Boca Raton, Florida. They envisioned a synagogue that was about the people, the “congregation,” and one that had the best school around. Four soon became seven and the dream finally became a reality. With Mimi and Michael Abramson, Wendy and Jim Friedland, Sue and Howard Goldman, Barbara and Henry Janus, Barbara and Burton Metsch, Renee and Joel Nadel, Michelle and Joseph Wasch, and Rabbi Richard and Mindy Agler at the helm, Congregation B’nai Israel was formed and soon became the fastest growing reform synagogue in the country.

Services and classes began at the Center for Group Counseling in Boca Raton. Teachers were volunteers. Books were donated. Members baked the cakes and cookies for Friday night oneg Shabbat. As the congregation grew, the space became too small, and a place of our own was needed. We broke ground in 1989 and the home of Congregation B’nai Israel was built.

We are now considered one of the landmark reform congregations in the country. With nearly 1,000 families, a religious school serving over 600 students, and early childhood programs considered one of the finest in the nation, Congregation B’nai Israel, or CBI, is more than just a synagogue. Our programs are rich and varied. We strive to educate and inspire our children, youth, and adults. We encourage our members to actively participate in worship and Torah study. We urge our members to contribute to the continuance and vitality of the Jewish people, to participate in our celebrated social action and philanthropic initiatives, and to commit to Tikkun Olam…repairing the world.

Our services, led by our Rabbis, are innovative and diverse and are filled with song, joy, and spirituality. We also use our Shabbat Services as a venue for learning by engaging noted rabbis and scholars who share with us on timely issues. Music is at the heart of what we do, with musical Shabbats and programs led by our Cantor. We offer a multitude of learning opportunities for everyone-from our weekly Women’s Torah Study classes to our Adult Learning seminars. Our CBI Talks Speaker Series and Nagle Family Jewish Film Festival enrich the lives of all who attend, not only those from our membership, but from the entire community. Our social groups, youth groups, tot Shabbats, holiday celebrations, and family-friendly programs are inclusive, fun, and spiritual. Our clergy inspire us and meet our needs in times of joy and sorrow.

Congregation B’nai Israel continues to grow and meet the challenges of a vastly changing world, using the traditions of Judaism to keep us connected. CBI is the place our founders dreamed of all those years ago and we welcome you to join our family.

We encourage you to give us a call at (561) 241-8118, make an appointment, come to one of our services or events, and join our CBI family. For more information, please call our office at (561) 241-8118 or email our Executive Director, Steve Allen.
