Today marks an exciting new chapter at Congregation B’nai Israel as we officially welcome Rabbi Cy Stanway as our Senior Interim Rabbi for 2026–2027. We are thrilled to have him join our community and look forward to the year ahead.
Rabbi Cy Stanway will serve as our Senior Interim Rabbi for 2026–2027. He brings a lifetime of service in the congregational rabbinate, having served communities in Hattiesburg, Mississippi; Las Cruces, New Mexico; and Elberon, New Jersey. Most recently, Rabbi Cy served as Interim Rabbi in Gainesville, Florida, from June 2025 through July 2026.
Rabbi Stanway attended York University in Toronto, where he earned a degree in Psychology. He graduated from Hebrew Union College–Jewish Institute of Religion in 1987 and received his Doctor of Divinity in 2012.
In his free time, Rabbi Stanway enjoys playing guitar and drums and is also an amateur radio operator.
We invite you to watch Rabbi Cy’s welcome message as he shares his excitement about joining the Congregation B’nai Israel family and the journey ahead.
We’re excited for you to get to know Rabbi Cy in the months ahead. Be sure to look for our August bulletin, where we’ll feature a fun Q&A so you can learn even more about him—both as a rabbi and as a person.
Want to meet and welcome Rabbi Cy in person? Join the CBI Brotherhood on Wednesday, July 15 at 6:30 PM with a warm greeting and a toast at Tap 42 Craft Kitchen and Bar. RSVP by July 10 if you plan on joining.
