CBI Book Club

Join us for our October reading: Leaving Eastern Parkway by Matthew Daub.

When tragedy upends Zev Altshul’s life in Brooklyn’s Lubavitcher community, handball—his gift from God—becomes his anchor. As he’s shuttled between family and elders who ultimately abandon him, Zev sets out across America in search of his long-lost sister and a life beyond Crown Heights. From Chicago to New Mexico, ties to his past shadow him, forcing him to question loyalty, freedom, and belonging in this lyrical and vivid portrait of Hasidic life and exile.

Recommended by Linda Riegelhaupt, Discussion Moderator

  • Upcoming Book Club Dates: Nov 20, Dec 18, Jan 22 IN PERSON, Feb 19, Mar 19,  Apr 16, May 14.

Sometimes clichés are so inherent in our vernacular that they appear in our content without thought. How many times have you relied on any of the following phrases, whether in conversations or in your writing:

  • Read between the lines
  • Better safe than sorry
  • Ignorance is bliss

Join Steve to share your favorites and discuss how we use cliches in everyday conversation.

This event is free for members. A light breakfast will be served. Register at the link below.
